1. Kutna Hora – This region was once one of Europe’s main producers of silver, and visitors to Kutna Hora will be able to see a medieval coin mint. One of the most famous gothic cathedrals in the world, St Barbara’s Cathedral, and the Czech Museum of Silver are located in Kutna Hora. While in the region, tourist can also visit Sedlec, a neighbouring town, which is home to the Sedlec Ossuary which has used the bones of Kutna Hora in Pragueformer townspeople to line and decorate its interiors.

2. Karlstejn Castle – Originally built to house the Roman crown jewels, the Karlstejn Castle is only 45 minutes away from Prague by train. Tours of the castle include visits to the Holy Rood Chapel (the walls of which have feature embedded gems) the Imperial Palace, the Hall of Knights and the Royal Bedroom.

3. Plzen – The birthplace of Pilsener Beer, Plzen is a great place for a day trip. A typical day trip at Plzen will allow you to learn about the history of beer and beer tasting.

4. Terezin – Having been used as a Nazi concentration camp, Terezin has a rather morbid history. Tourists can take a walk through the barracks to understand the conditions under which prisoners were forced to live. Terezin is an hour’s ride from Prague, by bus.

5. Cesky Krumlov – Four hours away from Prague by train and three hours away by bus, Cesky Krumlov is known for its picturesque countryside, sprawling castles, fortresses and museums. The town always has a concert or festival on its agenda and tourists will never be at a loss as to how to pass their time here.
