The Winter Festival in Prague
Held during the first week of January, Prague Winter Festival is one of the most popular annual festivals in the Czech Republic. The festival has been going on for almost four decades now and showcases some of the most impressive opera performances from all over Europe, including the world-renowned Prague opera. Other highlights of the five-day
festival include world-class ballet performances and classical music concerts.
These events are usually held at the National Theatre, the Estates Theatre, the Prague Rudolfinum, the Dvorak Hall and the Prague State Opera. Famous acts include the Hradistan Dulcimer band and the Bambini Di Praga. Musical performances usually include renditions of pieces by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Lehar, Puccini and Verdi among others.
Tourists can enjoy famous operas like Othello and Don Giovanni. Festival-goers can also walk through the city while enjoying many of the winter festival’s sights as well as indulge in fine dining while listening to good music.
People interested in participating in the festival can reach Prague via train from other European countries or by air through Prague Airport. Prague is particularly popular with travellers in December, which is one of the most event filled months in the city and tourists will need to book their tickets and arrange for accommodation early.
