The Strings of Autumn Festival, an internationally acclaimed music festival featuring various genres such as world music and jazz, classical and is jointly organised by the National Museum, Czech Philharmonic, VIZE 97, Vaclav and Dagmer Havel Foundation. The venues for this event are theatres, concert halls and churches located all over Prague, and this includes the National Memorial at Vitkov Hill and the Spanish
Synagogue.
The festival has been an important part of cultural life in Prague ever since its inception in 1996. Known for its encouragement of creativity and originality, the event draws prominent performers, who would never set foot in Prague but for this festival. The previous year’s line-up included Cassandra Wilson - the jazz diva, Gil Shaham - a classical violin player, and Heimatklage, a vocal troupe specialising in a blend of yodelling and Orthodox chants.
The event presents the choicest of music in three categories—Inspiration, which re-introduces artists who have made impressive first appearances, Crossover, which presents the best artists worldwide and Luminaries, which presents the finest artists in the genres of jazz, classical music and early music.
