Religious Events in Prague

The city of Prague in the Czech Republic is home to an extremely religious population. The Population is diverse in age and ethnicity which ensures that there are a number of different religions which are prevalent in the city. Each year there are a number of events around the city which come as a result of the rich religious culture within the city. Below Christmas marketis a brief guide to just some of them:

International festival of religious music

This successful and popular festival includes many of the churches around the city. Choirs and performers from around the world gather to perform, share and celebrate the lord with huge crowds.

Easter Preparations

This event occurs in the build up to Easter. It sees the young males in the city parade through the streets after finishing school. Each male will shake a rattle vigorously to create a distinctive sound. The idea of the act is to ward off Judas.

This event combines the best Jewish religious songs with the best songs from musicals around the world. A great event if you love world music also.

Pomlazka

The early inhabitants of the Czech Republic were Pagan. Despite the fact that many of the Pagan ways of life have been lost due to the fact that Pagans were illiterate and did not document their beliefs, there are still certain traditions which remain. Pomlazka is the tradition of either dousing girls in water or striking them around the legs with rope comes from the ancient tradition which proved someone’s purity.
