The Vinohrady area of Prague was named after the vineyards that once covered a large part of the region in the fourteenth century. Today, this region has become a horticulturist’s dream and has become a site of rose gardens and orchards.
There are many attractions for tourists in the region including churches, markets malls and even cemeteries. Prague also boasts an active nightlife with many clubs and bars that tourists can visit.
Visitors to the Vinohrady area of Prague should not fail to see the Church of St Ludmila, a mammoth Neo- Gothic church, that was created as a by prominent Czech artists. The Church of the Most Scared Heart of Our Lord, located in the Jiřího z Poděbrad Square, is a complete contrast, drawing tourists curious to learn more about its 20th century
interiors and innovative design.
Mánesova Street is the perfect place to go in Vinohrady if you want to take a break from all the sightseeing and just wander around, in picturesque settings, with Prague’s famous architecture to keep you company.
Shopping enthusiasts should make a trip to the Vinohrady Market Hall, which is one of only three remaining market halls in Prague, housing one of the most popular shopping malls in Prague, the Pavilion. This market is definitely the place to go if you would like to see an original Czech market and get some shopping done in the bargain.
Tourists should also visit the Vinohrady cemetery, which is the final resting place of many a well known citizen of Prague, including famous painter Jakub Schikaneder, sculptor Otto Gutfreund and the family tomb of the Czech Republics ex-president Havel.
